President's Letter

Apparently, I’m not the only one who is happy it is finally spring!  NACE is too, because they are celebrating with a really amazing membership special.  If you have friends or colleagues with whom you want to share all the growth you can get from belonging to the professional organization that offers the best professional development in Austin, now is the time.  Everyone who joins the organization between now and the end of the month receives 15 months for the price of 12 along with a bundle of PR goodies sent from some of the leaders in our industry.  Plus, if you recruit a new member, you save on your own membership renewal.  It is a win-win to start the new season off right.
Not that we can complain about the winter months at NACE Austin.  We had action packed meetings in January, February and March.
We kicked off the year with Past President, Amber Scott, giving us an annual report on the health of our chapter.  We were recognized for two national awards:  Best Community Service and Best Fundraiser (Side Bar:  The Amazing NACE is making a return in September—so get your teams ready!).  For the second year in a row we had membership growth, and we are a financially healthy chapter.  All good news for the 2019 year.  Our programs team has had dynamite education this year featuring multiple speakers you wouldn’t hear anywhere else.  April is no exception when Meryl Snow comes to Austin from Philadelphia with, “No, It’s Not About The Price.”   Meryl has authored two books about the sales process and closing the deal.  This is the program your boss wants you to attend!
I am honored to serve as president along side a group of hard-working volunteers who make this all volunteer organization work for you—the members.  If you’re enjoying the monthly programs, our communications and community service activities, consider getting more involved.  You can dip your toe in on one of our micro-volunteer opportunities or jump all in and join us on in helping raise even more scholarship funds on The Amazing NACE committee.
All of our corporate and in-kind donations, and fundraising goes directly back to us, the members, to further develop skills like leadership, cooperation and negotiation.  Your support also goes to community service projects like Bingo with the residents of Marbridge and working with Big Love to decorate a waiting area at Christmas for kids with cancer

- Michele Schwartz, President

We had so much fun at EVOLVE, the NACE Leadership conference this past January!!

Evolve 2019

“I loved getting the opportunity to bond with the other board members and solidify a strong strategy for the year. It was great to meet other professionals from across the country to share ideas and have a little fun, of course!” - Courtney with Whim Hospitality (Community Service Chair)

"I loved getting a chance to meet and network with other chapter leaders. It was really helpful to be able to see what was working in other chapters!" -Josh with MyEventIsTheBomb (Hospitality Co-Chair)

"It was such a great opportunity to meet with other leaders in my same position and bounce ideas off of each other based on what has worked, and brainstorm new creative ideas together! We also bonded so much as a chapter board while exploring the River Walk in San Antonio!" - Michelle with Premiere Events (Communications Chair)

"It was my first time to attend the annual NACE Leadership Conference, Evolve. And, I hope I get to go over and over again.  It was jam-packed with new ideas, motivation and good times with the other Austin peeps.  I know it gives us A Leg-Up on the competition." - Michele with Go Magic Vacations (President)

"NACE Evolve was such a unique experience that I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to participate with other members of our Board.  Not only was it a great team building opportunity, but it gave me the chance to brainstorm with other chapters as well.  It was great to hear what works, what didn't work, how to improve and be a better resource for our members." - Heather with Courtyard by Marriott Austin Pflugerville and Pflugerville Conference Center (Vice President)

"Really enjoyed the breakout sessions the most. I feel the more intimate setting allows for more interaction of individuals. I would definitely attend again." Natalie with Balcones Country Club (Programs Co-Chair)

Cause of the Quarter

Thank you to everyone who donated to and volunteered their time for Bingo with the residents of our Cause of the Quarter, Marbridge!

Bingo at Marbridge

Our Cause of the Quarter for Q2 2019 is the Austin Area Mental Health Consumers, Inc.! They provide services at The Self-Help and Advocacy Center (The SHAC). "We are proud to report that we make a difference for people with lived experiences of mental health, substance use, and homelessness. Our members receive life affirming services, embrace RECOVERY and healthy living, become gainfully employed, and give back to their communities.  By utilizing different means to connect with our members (support groups, Peer Mentor Program, Return to Work Program, Computer Lab with Internet Access and Tutorials Resource for Mental Health Navigation, and SHAC SNACKS, to name a few), we find these options for recovery and healthy living effective."

You can always make a donation during meeting registration, or at any time through our Cause of the Quarter page!

Global Meetings Industry Day

We are so excited to be involved as a partner for Global Meetings Industry Day coming up on April 4th at Fair Market! It's not too late to register!
Global Meetings Industry Day

Twelve Texas Meeting and Events Industry Associations will come together to network and advocate for the Meetings & Events Industry. On Thursday, April 4th, #GMID19 events will be held across the globe to demonstrate the measurable impact that meetings have on businesses, economies and communities.

Great things happen when people come together. Face-to-face interaction is the platform where deals are struck, relationships are forged and ideas are generated. That’s what Meetings Mean Business is all about: showing the real power of what business meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, trade shows and exhibitions collectively do for people, businesses and communities.
